For wounds with a high bacterial load or active infection, a wound dressing that does more than just cover is needed. The Hartmann Atrauman AG silver ointment dressing 5×5 cm combines the soft, non-adherent properties of a classic ointment dressing with the proven antibacterial action of elemental silver. The polyamide fibers are coated with elemental silver which, upon contact with wound exudate, releases silver ions — these bind to bacteria and neutralize them. This works not only against common bacteria, but also against gram-positive strains such as MRSA. The effect lasts up to 7 days, which limits dressing change frequency and increases patient comfort. The 10×10 cm size is the most universally applicable variant and is suitable for medium-sized wound areas such as leg ulcers, larger infected wounds, and pressure ulcers, and is used by wound care nurses, dermatologists, surgeons, and general practitioners in both primary and secondary care. Sterile, individually packaged, 10 pieces per box.
Atrauman AG is also available in larger sizes for more extensive wounds. View the full range of silver ointment dressings and wound care products at KS Medical Group.

Atrauman AG is used for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds with a high bacterial load or active infection. Applications include infected wounds, leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and first and second-degree burns. It can be used as a primary dressing material or in combination with secondary absorbent dressing materials for deeper wounds. The 10×10 cm size is the most universally applicable variant and is suitable for medium-sized wound areas such as leg ulcers, larger infected wounds, and pressure ulcers.
All three variants are identical in composition, mechanism of action, and duration of action (7 days). The difference lies exclusively in their size and thus their application area. The 5×5 cm is suitable for small wounds such as those on fingers, heels, or narrow ulcers. The 10×10 cm covers medium-sized wound areas and is the most universally applicable size. The 10×20 cm is intended for larger wound surfaces, such as extensive leg ulcers or burns over a larger area.
Yes. Atrauman AG has been specifically tested for efficacy against MRSA strains and has proven effective. The paraffin-free, triglyceride-based ointment dressing contains no sensitizing substances or allergens, making it suitable for use on sensitive skin. In cases of known silver allergy or hypersensitivity to polyamide, the treating physician should assess its use beforehand.
Atrauman AG should not be used in combination with paraffin-containing ointments (such as petroleum jelly) or iodine-containing preparations, as this interferes with its effectiveness. It does not replace antibiotic therapy for severe or deep-seated infections — medical assessment of the wound is always required. The product is intended for single use and should not be reused or re-sterilized. Do not use if allergic to silver.
The microbiological effect of Atrauman AG is maintained for at least 7 days with correct use. This means that, in principle, dressing changes can occur once a week, in consultation with the treating wound care professional. Change earlier if the secondary dressing is soaked through, if there are signs of clinical deterioration, or on the advice of the healthcare provider.
Yes, Atrauman AG is clinically used for pressure ulcers (bedsores), diabetic leg ulcers, and other chronic wounds with an increased risk of infection. The combined action of silver release and the non-adherent ointment layer allows for atraumatic dressing changes — essential for fragile tissue that can be re-damaged with each change.
No. The ointment mass is paraffin-free and triglyceride-based, so no petroleum jelly-like residues remain after dressing changes. The dressing does not adhere to the wound surface and is removed atraumatically. Any slight discoloration of the wound due to silver is normal and not harmful.
Store Atrauman AG flat — not upright — so that the ointment mass remains evenly distributed over the dressing. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Always use before the expiry date on the packaging and check the sterile packaging for damage before each use.
