A professional manual blood pressure monitor is the type of blood pressure monitor that is still commonly seen in GP practices and hospitals. In contrast to a fully automatic, digital blood pressure monitor, a manual blood pressure monitor does not use an oscillometric measuring method, but an auscultatory blood pressure measurement will be taken. The cuff is attached to the upper arm at the middle part of the sternum and then inflated manually with a bellows. The doctor or nurse will listen to the Korotkoff sounds through a stethoscope to determine the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
